HCU Library

The Library is located in Block G.  It includes a reading area as well as Internet Islands for conducting online research.  Photocopying services are also provided in the library with due consideration to HCU Copyright Policy. In order to operate the photocopy machines, copy cards must be purchased from the Library.

Access to HCU Collection
The Library provides an open stacks system.  Faculty, administrators and students are permitted to access all books, serials, diskettes, CD-ROMs, and all the HCU online databases.

Access to other Academic Libraries in Lebanon
HCU Library has so far initiated a collaboration agreement with AUB Libraries through a membership card that allows its holder to benefit from the AUB Libraries-resources.

Clearance
As part of their clearance requirements, all graduates must submit one soft and one hard copy of their senior project to be kept in the library.  Graduates should refer to the chief librarian regarding official binding standards required for their senior project.  They should also make sure that all borrowed material is returned to the library before beginning any clearance procedures.

Loans and Renewal Policy
There are three forms of loans at HCU Library:

  • Standard Loan:
The standard loan period varies from ten days to one semester according to borrower categories (Faculty: one semester, Administrator: two weeks, Student: ten days) and is renewable for another equivalent period. Visitors and guests are allowed to access the Library collection only within the confines of the Library; no borrowing privileges are granted.
  • Short Loan:
Restricted items such as CD-ROMs and Diskettes can be borrowed for one day.
  • Library Use:
“Library Use” applies to non-circulating material such as references, encyclopedias, periodicals, special collection, and books that have more than two volumes.
Any ordinary loan is renewable on the same conditions as the original one.  The borrower, in person, is responsible for renewing material before the due date expires and only after clearing any outstanding fines.

Borrowing Procedures
Students are asked to present their HCU ID in person to be able to use and borrow from the library collection.

Reservation Policy
Users can place a reservation for any loaned item.  Items placed on class reserve are to be used in the library area only.  The circulation staff will reserve items that are on loan on a first come first serve basis.

Responsibilities of Library Users

  • Avoiding Borrowing for Others:
Users should not abuse borrowing privileges by lending borrowed items to others.  They are held responsible for checked out material until the material is returned to the library.
  • Proper Handling of Library Material:
Library material is to be used by all, so proper care is strongly urged.  It is strictly forbidden to cut, tear, or deface (mark by pencil, pen, or highlighter) library material.  If a library user loses, damages, or fails to return Library material for any reason, he/she will be charged the amount necessary to purchase a replacement.  Replacement charges for lost items include in addition to the price of the item, shipping and/or binding costs.
  • Punctuality in Returning Borrowed Material:
Users should keep track of their checked out library material and act immediately upon receiving recall and overdue notices.  Material may be recalled to be put on reserve for classes or for use by another borrower.  Users are expected to return borrowed material on time.
