College of Sciences and Information Systems

Globalization lead to a world shrinking from size XXL to size XXS; Information Technology and Computer science played a major role into bringing down borders between countries through the development of the Internet and communication systems.  The dot com revolution have made it easier for countries to collaborate for the betterment of humanity: Indian and Australian doctors in India and Australia are interpreting CT scans of American based patients,  Geographic Information Systems are helping humanitarian services in war torn countries, and in Lebanon computer science professionals are getting their share in the outsourcing movement where major software applications are being developed by Lebanese startups in the Information Technology field.
Towards this end, the College of Science and Information Systems at the Hariri Canadian University developed a rigorous curriculum in the computer science and IT fields.  This program offers HCU students the theoretical aspects of their major supplemented by an ambitious hands-on industry experience allowing HCU graduates to start their careers in one of the following four majors: Computer Science, Computer Graphics, Management Information Systems, and Software Engineering.

Majors offered by this College:

Computer Science
The Computer Science (CS) major offer students a strong foundation in computers; be it computer architecture, computation, databases, data mining, computer science theory, computer security, and programming to name a few.  CS is a three-year program interjected by a summer internship.  Graduates of CS work as: programmers, database administrators, IT managers, financial analysts, consultants, software developers, etc.

Computer Graphics
Students in Computer Graphics must be talented and creative.  This talent is nourished, and honed further through three years of schooling studying topics such as: programming, creative editing, and advertising.  Computer Graphics students work in creative departments, advertising, animation, etc.

Software Engineering (Planned)
The art of software engineering came home to HCU.  Students enrolled in this program hone their skills toward producing market ready software applications.  Students enroll in classes covering: software design & architecture, documentation, project management, Human Computer Interaction, software testing and quality assurance.  Graduates with software engineering degree work as software developers, game developers, IT managers, consultants, etc.

Management Information Systems (Planned)
Students in the MIS program receive a well rounded education through courses offered in computing (programming, system analysis and design, databases, etc.) and in Business (accounting, management, etc.)  Upon degree completion, students are expected to be employed in companies relying heavily on IT for its operations; they work as database developers, system designers, and data miners.
