Description
HCU Work-Study Financial Aid Program is designed to help students get through the difficulties they face in paying their tuition fees. Financial Aid is granted in the form of prepaid work study hours with a fixed hourly rate for all jobs. Students are required to complete a specific number of work hours at a designated office on campus to earn their financial aid.
Eligibility Requirement
Students who present properly documented evidence of their need can participate in the Work Study Financial Aid Program.
To be eligible for HCU Work-Study Financial Aid Program, a student should maintain the following average and status requirements:
-
A minimum cumulative average of 75%
-
A minimum average of 75% in her/his last full-load semester
-
A regular academic status through the completion of at least 12 credits of regular courses in her/his major.
Financial aid is valid for one academic year (Fall and Spring semesters), as long as the student’s academic performance does not drop below average and status requirements specified above. Financial Aid is not applicable for summer sessions.
Newly admitted students are not eligible for this Program during their first semester at HCU
Application
Students apply to the Work Study Financial Aid Program once a year- for both fall and spring semesters for continuing students and for the spring semester for new students. Deadlines for submitting applications are strictly enforced. These deadlines vary for continuing and new students and are specified in HCU Academic Calendar.
Procedures
The sum total (Hours x Rate) is generally subtracted from the student’s tuition and fees before the semester begins. The student is expected to actually earn this sum by completing her/his work hours by the end of the semester.
The Student Affairs Office arranges the placement of students in jobs. Job Placement is governed by the principle of job complexity whereby students are placed in jobs that match their individual skills and abilities.
Students are required to commit to a specific work schedule agreed to with the immediate job supervisor. It is the sole responsibility of the student to stick to her/his work schedule to eventually complete the required work-study hours by the end of the semester.
In case a student fails to complete her/his work-study hours, s/he will be required to reimburse the amount equivalent to the number of hours s/he has failed to complete.
Disqualification
Students participating in the Financial Aid Work Study Program will have their performance continuously monitored by their immediate supervisors. The performance of each student will be evaluated by the supervisor at the end of the semester. Students whose evaluations prove unsatisfactory will be referred to the Student Affairs Office for possible release from the Program.
Disqualification for the Financial Aid Work Study Program also applies in case the beneficiary student fails to maintain average and status requirements by the end of a work study period or s/he receives a disciplinary probation as a result of improper behavior.
